Under the label of digital health many new actors are disrupting a market previously dominated by big pharmaceutical and medical companies. More and more start-ups take the lead with their innovative healthcare solutions and business models, Big Data and the datafication of healthcare being the engine for these technological innovations.
Berlin is one of the hotspots for healthcare innovation with more than 35 large research institutes and universities focusing on life sciences (according to Startupbootcamp Digital Health). At the moment more than 350,000 people work in the healthcare industry in Berlin and Brandenburg. By 2020 the city of Berlin is expected to create 100,000 new jobs (according to McKinsey).
